What it tells you

Richard comes to Stars Hollow and gets a look at the books in Rory's room. L. Frank Baum sits near a serial-killer thriller and Carl Sagan. That's the range of a kid who reads everything and hasn't been told she's supposed to pick a lane.

Carl Sagan's only novel, published in 1985, about a scientist who picks up a signal from space. The Jodie Foster movie came out in 1997, so Rory likely saw it first and read it anyway, which is the most Rory order of operations.
