Rory at the Chilton dance: The Portable Dorothy Parker
Rory Gilmore (Alexis Bledel) · The Chilton dance
Rory brings a book to her first Chilton dance, which tells you how she rated her odds of having fun. The book is Dorothy Parker, the sharpest tongue at the Algonquin Round Table. Amy Sherman-Palladino named her production company Dorothy Parker Drank Here, so this one is a personal recommendation from the boss.

The book

The Portable Dorothy Parker
Viking published it in 1944, and it's one of only three Viking Portables never to go out of print. The other two are Shakespeare and the Bible, decent company for a woman who wanted her epitaph to read "Excuse my dust."
