What it tells you

Lorelai buys Out of Africa for Rachel, Luke's photojournalist ex who has drifted back to Stars Hollow, on Rory's recommendation. A memoir by a woman who left everything for a farm in Kenya goes to a woman who can't stay in one town for a season. Lorelai picks a perfect gift for her future husband's girlfriend.

Out of Africa

Isak Dinesen · 1937 · memoir

Karen Blixen published it in 1937 as Isak Dinesen, about the coffee farm she ran outside Nairobi until 1931. Its first line, "I had a farm in Africa," is the one Meryl Streep made famous in 1985.
