What it tells you
Rory is tutoring Jess and the assignment is the Marshall Plan. Jess asks if she's ever read Please Kill Me and offers to lend it, pitching a punk oral history as a study break. The studying goes about as well as you'd guess.

The book
Please Kill Me
Legs McNeil and Gillian McCain · 1996 · oral history
Legs McNeil and Gillian McCain built it from interviews and published it in 1996, covering the Velvet Underground through the Ramones. McNeil co-founded Punk magazine in 1975, so he was at a lot of the parties he's quoting.
