What it tells you

Joe pulls a drunk Beck off the subway tracks, and she comes back to Mooney's with a thank-you gift for him: The Da Vinci Code, in Italian. Handing a Dan Brown to a man who works in a bookstore is a bold opening move. Translating it first makes it a personality.

The book

The Da Vinci Code

Dan Brown · 2003 · novel

Dan Brown's 2003 thriller opens with a murder in the Louvre, and this cover parks the Mona Lisa's eyes right under the title. Mondadori publishes it in Italy as Il Codice da Vinci. Reading it in Italian is the one move that makes a Dan Brown look like Franny and Zooey.
