Pete's bedtime story: Goodnight Moon
Pete Campbell (Vincent Kartheiser)
In The Other Woman, Pete reads Goodnight Moon to his daughter Tammy. It's the same episode where he brokers the Jaguar deal that sends Joan to a client's hotel room. The writers put the gentlest book in America in the hands of the man doing the worst thing at the agency, and they knew what they were doing.

The book

Goodnight Moon
Margaret Wise Brown's 1947 picture book, illustrated by Clement Hurd. Anne Carroll Moore, the New York Public Library's powerful children's librarian, disliked it, and the library didn't stock it until 1972. Its spot on the NYPL's own Mad Men list counts as penance.
