What it tells you

Season three opens with everyone predicting Richmond will finish last, and Beard at his desk reading about a tiny Italian club that wasn't supposed to survive either. The Coach Beard's Book Club podcast calls it the first book on screen that season. M.B. Davis spots it open on his desk again in episode three.

The book

The Miracle of Castel di Sangro

Joe McGinniss · 1999 · nonfiction

Joe McGinniss moved to a town in Abruzzo of about 5,000 people in 1996 to follow its club through its first season in Serie B. The 1999 book is a fairytale for most of its length. Beard should check the last chapter before he gets too inspired.
